After previous editions in Catania<\/a> and Trieste<\/a> we are pleased to announce the 3rd workshop on MA-XRF, Macro X-ray Fluorescence Scanning in Conservation, Art and Archaeology. It will take place in Delft (the Netherlands) on 26-27 September 2022. On the following two days workshops<\/a> on data evaluation and related methods are planned.
The workshop is organised by the Materials in Art and Archaeology group of the Materials Science and Engineering Department of the TU Delft in collaboration with the Netherlands Institute for Conservation+Art+Science+ (NICAS<\/a>) and supported by the Dutch Research Council (NWO<\/a>) and Bruker Nano<\/a>.
Scope<\/strong>
The workshop aims to bring together scholars having or seeking to gain experience with MA-XRF scanning and related methods of analysis of works of art.
At the meeting, the state of the art in instrument development and data evaluation methods will be discussed next to the application of both in relevant case studies. The combination of MA-XRF with other techniques in multi-modal studies is encouraged.
Scientific programme<\/strong>
The program will consist of invited lectures of distinguished scientists, oral and poster presentations. The official language will be English.<\/p>\r\n

Claudia Caliri is a well-established researcher in X-ray spectrometry. Main field of research concerns the development of advanced mobile X-ray Imaging techniques such as MA-XRF and \u00b5-XRF, CXRF and XRPD for application in the Cultural Heritage field. Currently she performs her scientific activity at XRAYlab of ISPC-CNR in Catania.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

Laurence de Viguerie is a research fellow at the CNRS (Laboratory of Molecular and Structural Archeology, Sorbonne Universit\u00e9). Her research concerns the study of paint formulations combined with in-situ analyses of works of art (X-ray fluorescence and hyperspectral imaging).<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

Marc Walton is currently head of conservation and research at M+ Museum for Visual Culture, Hong Kong, China. Prior to joining M+ in 2022, he was a Senior Scientist with the Northwestern University\/Art Institute of Chicago Center for Scientific Studies in the Arts (NU-ACCESS), which he joined in 2013. At NU-ACCESS, he led numerous collaborative initiatives and research projects to investigate art objects. His research interests are focused on elucidating the trade and manufacture of objects using the physical sciences, and on the development of the use of imaging technologies in the field of conservation science.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n

Rob Erdmann worked on multiscale material process modeling and image processing for cultural heritage at the University of Arizona in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering and the Program in Applied Mathematics. In 2014 he moved permanently to Amsterdam to focus full-time on combining materials science, computer science, and imaging science to help the world access, preserve, and understand its cultural heritage. He is Senior Scientist at the Rijksmuseum, and is also Full Professor of Conservation Science in the Faculties of Science and of Humanities at the University of Amsterdam.<\/p>\r\n<\/div>\r\n
